whole day line
end the day upon a bird
fly V away into the deep marines of destiny above
below the fishes fly to hope
and mackerel in their green scales sigh
and deer in bracken wish that they could be like you
so clever
mice that cower in their hovels hope to live another year
but you for all your former jocularity
wish only that the pain of cancer would be eased
and pass away to sing with birds and leap like fish
curl up and sleep then mouse
for another year is done
