Scarecrows

two scarecrows looking out over the once ashen ridge
I'm surprised to see them
side by side
he in his hefty black coat
and her heavy velvet blue dress
side by side
as presumably they had been in life
looking out toward old Ivanhoe
spectres in an early morning
a tribute to their partnership
in life and thereafter
in the memory of molecules or smaller things
conjoined within our complex selves
for what is life and death to particles ?
for what is life and death to aggregates
and where does that aggregation cease to be ?
