swan weepy as himself
neck bowed
anger all behind its carbonic eye
its many fancies remanded in silent words
and there they shall be captive
as the dull sheen of his anguish
meted from a fist thud expires into the air
his hand is bruised
dealt tarots croaked
and fortune dealed through its frank substance
a traveler from another world
guests are beautiful and lone from that place
and though she spoke in slang
and lived not that far away
yet exotic
and she grew within him
like a bean germ sprouting
a bean that then recoiled and died
for lack of energy or soil
who cares
she went upon her way
life, a room
you furnish much or bare
is not a home, as he discovered
soured as the roots of plants erode its soft foundation
so a wall may shift a house may tilt
and in that avenging sundown dusk
despond, the sweet broom of hills and men
swept his cares of houses
far away to ride with swans upon the rivulet
silhouetted in the rustic reeds
reeds that thatch someone else's home
