Summer

her voice asung across the valley
is a bell to man
her tryst a keeping
and a hiding of her devious plan
look how they flock around her calling
in their summer frocks and smocks all gaily stitched
unpick the summer hat of vegetables and fruit
its berries are black and ripe
its vines are beautiful and many branched
summers long pods crawl amid the foliage
her sun avenged
for the many grow
and there many more do live upon that fruit

Isobel
the naive land was once enjoyed
but its sun is lower in the skies
hiding, her lies uncovered
and her shame exposed like nudity
her bosom wrinkled and her children fallen in the silky grasses

winters writhen pods crawl amid the veined remains of foliage
where are you now young belle
old or ancient
rocking in a mountain lair
or out of context neath the chime
your tongue a silent chord is whispering
prosperity will come again
as spring will turn to summers new
when the weak are culled
and turned the soil
is freshly dewed
