fair winter
fair winter
challenge the browns and blacks
that from exquisite skies are fallen
on earths despair
when the tender limbs and loins of yesterday are long ago
and forgotten cells decayed within the marrow of soft earth
that lies upon deaths stone
then white winter draw your oblique picture
and in it let us see their future aspirations drawn
upon those mouldering scattered failures and their leaf built follies
for in that play we hunt them
as the winds hunt upon the frosted tips
or seek their pleasure dangers
as we once hunted lions in the desert
their hot skins burnt their souls
their bloods to spill upon the burning sands
and we like the many sands to drink that blood
sing with the voices of creation
and the dunes they roll and sunder on our throated roar
for we were far removed from winters cold and culling balm
when we were cradled in creations arms
and this is how it is
when we offer up our children
that they may be hunted down
that we hope they run from winter
and in desert lairs
take toll of hunters blood
and spoil their limbs
upon rough rocky crops
crude altars to the gods of art
these are my dark winters
and my skies
their brightness all eloped
i hope they journey well
to greet you as you least expect
