chimera

rains fade and sun will trap
hot mists from the cauldron floor
will rise their evaporation shimmered
like chimera off the puddled track
small torrents deep and winding
many miles of arteries
that through the cluttered vision of the woodlands run
so too the woodsman's ways thin and cord like
nets of nerves that join the hidden villages
paths made maybe one hundred thousand years ago
and others unremembered
buried like some passing scent
with only robin song for sustenance
well suns may fade and rains may fall
and so the cycle ons
love loves like life and so
loves many oceans
daughters of creations breath
ranged against the hills green silks
and earthbound beats that shape the earth in short convulsion
may one day like the drunkard rail and one day cease
loves many suns may cause the fertile soil
to leap with colour and abundance
before its withered heap destroys
loves many rains
may drown those souls
whose bodies in the arteries are cleansed
and those loves those who travel through the ages
may slowly mortify
low manuals of ageing power
sedulous to hold that they once were
still grip white knuckled
sliding soil surrounds and they are taken
but our love has not died
the years the passing years have nurtured
that rich forest of our joys
and i never cease to amaze
at its vast variety
its secret shades
its patterned panoply of vistas
