larks

all song may rise
like larks ascending
whistle shy and lovely
in the train of dunnock
screech the joys upon an air
with swifts and martins arching
or gabby as the undulating flock
of circled goldfinch
some song may rise in joy
and touch the arrowed goose that scout the heavens
some song may fly in joy
and pierce and be tamed among the bubbles of the atoms
some song may fall in joy upon reflective flower buds
and dulcify to honey
some song may fall and librate to a hush
your song has changed from larks ascending
and where the keen intent of notes
intensified by empathy
inspired environment
and your song
fell as scales on chalk
and so was petrified like tiny crusticles
that small and wriggly
insignificant except by mass
appalled the seas
and made an ill kept carpet there
a change again
your song now distant is uplifted as the ages passed
and by the accomplishment of age
refined its sediment
and uplifted it to rolling hills and trees
whose beauty and whose savages
tempt birds to sing its beauty
and fly uplifted from it vernal grass
like so many many larks ascending
