trap

narcissus
drowsing in the sun
sunlight heed the colours call
the leavened voices dry as bread
arranged in horizontal schemes
discuss the lairs of coney
and of secret bird
and then to talking love
he causally throws that love away
a man throws whelps long bones of man
and on its marrow weevils chew
but as the maggots sang their song
they cawed what goes around
will raise revenge again

sway green prickled phantoms of the scrub
whistle down deny the wind
define the silence of the arid day
and thorned mountain tracings
patterned fabrics waiting water
patinad fabric in the dust
reveals the tale of deer and hog
scalloped fabric o'er the hole of life
hides the traps and tricks
by which we came to be
criss crossed upon the face of earth

when nature endured
heavenly haunted
with all her secret prayers
the day that marked our coming
and made marks upon the skeins of favour
that like strange blood drawn figures
showed the world of creatures frail and fallen limp
obsequious and beaten
but that look to us all life and vigour
then nature not alone in amputation
winced a chord of malice
and flowers sank their heads in solace
and wild dogs bayed
but not too loud
and forests hid

first fruit, then rot, then half eaten seeds will grow
amid the shit that life provides
where the adventures of deception
seek patterns in the skies
and crevices of arid rock hold tiny demons
and ancient conniburrows are host to tiny
hornet sprites
and giants roamed glum forests
and all the trees had many eyes
but slowly slowly logic slowly
drove them off to hide in books
and disbelief
but not so us
the drugs that linger in deception
run rabid through our arteries
where demons dancing green like thorny phantoms of the scrub
where violent scourges roam uneven on the foothills
where visions make the back crawl with fears tense shiver
where blue nymphs eternal victims
and islands harbour dagons
and chaos with his horned sprites stings
volcanoes spew their vomit over helpless man at whim
this is where narcissus lives
in that crevice crack
between the dawn and day of knowledge
a world of shadow beasts
a stunning paradise of violent precision
where all must live and die
upon sharp blades imagination
and of unrequited love
